We got the call from his doctor today with all the test results. It's not a big deal, a little more than what I was expecting, but I had a feeling we just needed to change his diet.
So he can't have gluten or wheat, anything with dairy or egg whites. I'm a little bummed about the dairy and egg thing, because it's not that hard to find specialty gluten-free breads and cookies, or lactose-free dairy items, but it's REALLY hard to find breads NOT made with eggs, or "dairy-free" cheese and yogurt.
I know a lot of people who can't eat dairy, or can't eat wheat. But I need to meet people who have experience with cutting out ALL dairy, wheat, and eggs. If you know of anyone, have any info for me, please let me know. I have already found some stuff on the internet, but I need to do more research.
THANK GOODNESS it is nothing worse! Simply changing diet is NOT that big of a deal, and his doctor is confident once his insides heal up, he will start to grow. I'm so grateful it's not some disorder that needs to be treated with medication, or leads to a shorter life, etc. There are a bunch of things that can cause stunted growth, discomfort, and digestive issues that are much more serious. Maybe now he will be able to sleep soundly, be a little happier, and grow to be a tall, strong kid like his big brother.
Thank you all again for your thoughtfulness and concerns, I really appreciate them!

Holy allergies! I used to be allergic to wheat and dairy stuff when I was younger. A lot of my siblings were also allergic. In fact, Rob couldn't have dairy until after his mission. For some reason, he was cured while serving. Coincidence? I don't think so. Anyway, my mom knows a lot about allergy stuff. She had to deal with it for a long time and still does! I'll drop her a line about it.
Hi Tara! I started to leave you a really long comment before just deciding to email you. I am sending an email to your split level studio address. We have been in your same boat--still are--and I am happy to share some of our survival tactics!
Thanks,
Rachel (Welton)
Holy Allergies Batman! Glad that he's going to be OK. Not wanting to add something more for you to do, but have you thought about making bread in a bread machine? Then you would know exactly what was in it. I make bread in mine, and it's always good. Are goat milk products OK? You can get almost everything dairy also in a goat variety. My niece is allergic to dairy, and that is what her mom does. She didn't like soy milk, but really likes the goat milk.
Just out of curiosity, how did they test for the allergies?
Anyway, I didn't intend to write so much :)
Glad that he's OK and on his way to being a big healthy boy!
Sorry to hear that Eddie has allergies. I can tell you though that there are so many things out there for both. most of the gluten free boxes I buy have eggs/dairy taken out as well, and I have to add them back in. Alot of the bread and cake mixes I buy also have a "cheat" sheet on them for what to substitute in. Its hard at first but once you start getting into the swing of things its not so bad. If you want book names of any recipes let me know. I have plenty that are wheat free, gluten free, dairy free, and egg free. (I also buy cookies and waffles all the time that are free of all of the above.)
Oh, so good to hear lil' Eddie is gunna be ok..and all it is..is some annoying allergies. But those are the kind that they eventually grow out of! Oh, and thanks for the sweet comment by the way...I'd like to think Eric and I are cool...but I know the reality is that we are just goofy and quite annoying and I try to be cool but it may be obviouse that I am trying to be cool..which is no cool...I do what I do. Oh, and I checked out that cute blog you mention to me...and I love, love those rings...I want them all!
LOL I was going to comment here to have you talk to Rachel, but I see she already beat me to it!
I'm glad that it isn't anything serious with the Eddster. Good luck with the diet thing.
Naomi
if i could help i would but with kora she just can't have milk and cheese so i guess i gotta good. hey lookie there, you're comment on my blog ended up beig true in this case, you DO have it worse than me. See, it wasn't so crazy of you to say that!! haha
Wow!!! Is that something he will "grow out of"? Sounds a bit daunting to adjust to. But like you said, its handle-able. I wish I had advice, but I would just shop at Whole Foods or whatever else you guys have there! Keep us posted!
Hi there.
Our daughter, Amy had really bad gerd, and has had the same allergies. She has a prescription formula called NEOCATE. They make it not only for infants but for toddlers as well. It was hard when I was bf, I had to stick to the same strict diet. But shopping at Whole Foods is a great, healthy place to be! And we luv baking with Oat flour!
Is this an allergy problem? Or a temporary cut back/ to eliminate other health concerns? Looks like you're getting a wealth of knowledge and support from friends. If you need anymore advice, don't hesitate to call or email me. I'd be happy to help.
You have such a cute family!
